The STAVE OFF Physiotherapy and Exercise Team
MScPT, CSCS, PhD (s)
Feeling she needed to learn more about exercise prescription, she obtained her Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) accreditation through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in 2014. Christina has competed in athletics for many years, including a third place finish in the CrossFit Regionals with her team in 2014. She interned at McMaster University in Strength and Conditioning with women’s rugby as well as being a member of the medical staff at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, ON. She has volunteered her time as a coach in rhythmic gymnastics with the Special Olympics and is currently trying to get her lovely black lab Boomer certified as a therapy service dog. Her hope is that the two of them can spread joy in the hospital setting with his wagging black tail.
This passion led him to pursue more knowledge in the area of exercise in older adults, where he is currently enrolled in the Functional Aging Institute specialty program. With a passion for exercise as well as nutrition, Nicholas completed his Precision Nutrition Level I certification in Spring of 2016.
Nick grew up in Northern Ontario playing football and went on to play collegiately, becoming the Captain of the York University Lions football team in the 2013 season. From there he went on to be drafted to the Toronto Argonauts, making their roster for the 2014 season as a running back.
Welcome to STAVE OFF
At STAVE OFF, we aim to build up all aspects of our community along a continuum. We aim to help you reach your goals no matter where you are starting from. Through our physiotherapy services, we can get you back to what you love to do most, reduce pain, improve stiffness and increase strength. These services are covered under many private insurance plans.
Our group exercise programs allow you to reach your fitness goals! We have programs that can cater to you such as PRIME or our arthritis-specific program, CONQUER. Our gym and rehab staff are knowledgeable about injury, injury prevention and modification of exercise programs based on your level. We strengthen our connection to the community through our fundraising efforts for local non-profit organizations. This is why a portion of every exercise membership to STAVE OFF goes to Hospice Kingston.
Through our community, we can work to be role models of healthy, active lifestyles. With the help of our team, we can encourage all members of the Kingston community at any age to be strong contributing members of our wonderful society.
What We Do
Physiotherapy is a treatment that involves the assessment, management and resolution of muscle aches and pains as well as strengthening of the body to improve your ability to complete the things that are important to you! We do this in a variety of ways but some include:
Soft tissue release techniques
Exercise based corrective exercises
Teaching you ways to manage your injury as you work through the rehabilitation process
We want to think of our retirement years as the PRIME of our life.
Prime is an exercise-based strength training program based off the latest research for adults as we age. It works to give you the opportunity to gain the strength for the activities you want to be involved in, from hiking, to travelling, to playing with your grandbabies. This program, led by a physiotherapist or physiotherapy assistant, teaches you the fundamentals of strength training and how to progress exercises appropriately. It is suited to people of all ages and skill levels.
Being led by rehabilitation professionals gives you the confidence to begin a program regardless of any aches, pains or health conditions.
The results speak for themselves, contact us to come and try out one of our classes!
Individual &Small Group Personal Training
STAVE OFF personal training focuses on teaching the foundations of movement through strength training to correct any movement issues and work towards your individual goals.
Using small group personal training to create a safe and friendly environment, our team will work with you to achieve whatever milestone you have set out for yourself!
In Canada each year, 1 in 3 persons over the age of 65 fall. Falls can lead to injury, hospitalization, fear of falling and other complications. We use a combination of exercise focused on strength training, education and lifestyle coaching to help older adults in our community stay active and enjoy their life in every decade.
This program is supervised by a physiotherapist and administered by a physiotherapy assistant with the knowledge you need to stay on your feet!
